LIRA CITY||UGANDA|President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Saturday joined thousands of jubilant supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the Lango Sub-region to celebrate his recent electoral victory, in a colourful event marked by enthusiasm, music, and renewed political commitment.

The celebrations, held at Lango College Grounds in Lira City, attracted a massive turnout from across the region, with supporters dressed in the signature yellow colours of the NRM chanting slogans and singing in praise of the President’s leadership.

A Show of Gratitude and Unity
Addressing the crowd, President Museveni expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Lango and Ugandans at large for entrusting him with another electoral mandate. He described the victory as a collective achievement for all citizens committed to stability, development, and prosperity.

“I want to thank the people of Lango and the entire country for standing with the NRM. This victory belongs to all of us who believe in peace, unity, and progress,” Museveni said.
The President commended the region for its continued support to the NRM, noting that Lango has increasingly embraced government programs aimed at improving livelihoods, including wealth creation initiatives and infrastructure development.

Strong Warning Against Corruption
In a firm tone, Museveni used the occasion to caution leaders and public servants against corruption, describing it as a major obstacle to national development.
He warned that government will intensify efforts to identify and punish corrupt officials, emphasizing that public resources must be used strictly for the benefit of citizens.“Corruption is an enemy of progress. Those who steal from the public will not be tolerated. We are going to deal decisively with anyone who misuses government funds,” he stated.

The President further urged citizens to remain vigilant and report cases of corruption, stressing that accountability must be upheld at all levels of leadership.
Commitment to Development
Museveni reiterated his government’s commitment to transforming Lango through key sectors such as agriculture, education, health, and infrastructure. He encouraged residents to actively participate in wealth creation programs, particularly those targeting household incomes.

Local leaders who spoke at the event praised the President for his continued engagement with the region and pledged their support in implementing government programs.
Regional Significance
The Lango Sub-region has in recent years become an important political base for the NRM, with increasing voter support reflected in recent elections. Analysts view the President’s visit as both a gesture of appreciation and a strategic move to consolidate political gains in Northern Uganda.

The celebration ended in a festive atmosphere, with cultural performances and chants from supporters, symbolizing renewed unity between the leadership and the people.
