Anna Ebaju Adeke
KAMPALA, UGANDA》April 15, 2026
Soroti District Woman Member of Parliament, Anna Ebaju Adeke, has been appointed the new Chief Whip of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Parliament, replacing Yusuf Nsibambi who recently defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The announcement was made during a parliamentary plenary sitting, marking a significant shift in the opposition party’s leadership structure within the August House. Adeke’s appointment comes at a critical moment for the FDC, as it seeks to reorganize and maintain cohesion following Nsibambi’s exit.
Nsibambi’s defection earlier this year sent shockwaves through the FDC ranks, weakening the party’s grip on key parliamentary coordination roles and raising concerns over internal stability. Party officials, however, described the move as a setback they were prepared to overcome through strategic leadership adjustments.
As Chief Whip, Adeke assumes a central role in steering the party’s legislative agenda. Her responsibilities will include mobilizing FDC Members of Parliament for key debates and votes, enforcing party discipline, and serving as the crucial link between the party’s top leadership and its parliamentary caucus.
Adeke, a lawyer by profession and a vocal legislator, is widely regarded as part of a new generation of opposition leaders. Political analysts say her elevation signals a deliberate shift by the FDC toward younger, more energetic leadership as it repositions itself in Uganda’s evolving political landscape.
Observers further note that her appointment could reinvigorate the party’s presence in Parliament, particularly at a time when opposition cohesion remains under pressure from defections and internal divisions.
Her rise also reflects the FDC’s broader strategy to stabilize its internal structures and maintain relevance ahead of upcoming political contests. With Adeke now at the helm of the party’s parliamentary coordination, attention will be on how effectively she can unify the caucus and assert the FDC’s voice in national legislative processes.
The FDC remains one of Uganda’s leading opposition parties, and Adeke’s new role places her at the center of its efforts to navigate a challenging and increasingly competitive political environment.
